Newport oregon bed and breakfast inns

Featuring the Bed and Breakfast Inns of Newport and South Beach Oregon

ALocated on Oregon's beautiful central coast, Newport is a town with many faces. Tourism is only one of the forces that creates a dynamic environment for visitors. Its fishing industry, with the colorful boats that enter and exit the harbor daily, provides bounty from the sea for all the wonderful restaurants. And visitors may gather seafood themselves - fishing, crabbing, and clamming abound.

The large scientific community at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, Oregon State University's marine biology headquarters, engages in many forms of research that the scientists gladly share with visitors in the public wing renovated in 1997. This facility with its hands-on exhibits makes it easy for everyone to learn more about the wonders of the Pacific Ocean. Nearby, the world-famous Oregon Coast Aquarium houses many forms of the Pacific's creatures in exhibits designed to educate and amaze visitors.

Newport boasts two lighthouses - Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, now a museum, overlooking the dramatic entrance to the bay, and Yaquina Head Lighthouse, on a basaltic promontory three-miles north of the city, providing a beacon to ships at sea. Between these two lighthouses, you can explore over five miles of wide, sandy beaches -- Nye Beach to the south and Agate Beach to the north. Also at Yaquina Head, visitors can enjoy the newly-built interpretive center in the upper rock quarry and the human-made tidepools in the lower rock quarry. Yaquina Head has a black-rock beach replete with tidepools, a bird sanctuary, a seal haul-out, and an area to look for gray whales which are frequently spotted from the headland. You might also take a whale-watching trip to experience our resident population of gray whales up close and personal.

In Historic Nye Beach, you encounter the city's large artistic community. Theater, concerts, dance, and other arts are at home in the Performing Arts Center, and artists and artisans display visual art forms in the Visual Arts Center and Yaquina Arts Center at the Nye Beach Turnaround. Historic Nye Beach and the historic bayfront, home of the fishing industry, have many shops, restaurants, galleries, and activities.

Plan a trip soon to beautiful Newport. Make it your destination and choose one of our member B&B's for your home away from home.
